| Bradly Gang Family Skit 1: Why Cod’s way is the right way Scene begins w/ Mary walking through park and encounters a bald, white robed "Hare Krishna" who approaches her and is handing out flyers. HK: Young lady! You look like you are an intelligent young woman in search of spiritual enlightenment. Let me show you the way through Krishna. Mary: "Well. I think I am spiritually enlightened". I go to church and I believe in God.I But don’t know what this "Krishna" is you are talking about. HK: Krishna is a way of life. You can learn to meditate and find God within yourself, you must join our order and do as we say and you will find the answer to all of life’s mysteries. Mary: That sounds so deep! What do I have to do to belong? HK: You must become one of us, Leave your family and friends behind. Give all of your personal belongings to our order. We live as one commune, There you will learn the ways of truth. Mary: Hmmm. It sounds very interesting. I’m not sure, though. HK: You have nothing to fear. Come with me and I will show you more. (Mary follows HK offstage and gets into Skin cap and robe while Mrs. Bradly enters Bradly family set and is baking cookies with Cindy) Mrs. Bradly: All right, Cindy, it’s time to add the chips, go ahead and pour them into the batter. I think these will be the best Chocolate chip cookies ever! (as she is speaking Mary walks in—-Cindy laughs and Mrs. Bradly drops the cookie dough to the floor and her jaw drops in shock as she sees Mary—the reaction should be quite extreme) Mary Bradly-—what have you done to your hair? Mary: Mom, please, chill out—you’re sending some very negative vibes. Don’t call me Mary. My new name is Love Child I have discovered the way to inner peace and spiritual enlightenment. I just came home to get my life savings to take to the head guru. Mrs. Bradly: Mary, Love Child whatever---l don’t know whatever kind of joke this is but I’m not laughing. Mary: It’s not a joke mom. I met this wonderful. Wise person who has offered to show me the way to solving the mysteries of life through the teaching of Hare Krishna. All I have to do is give them all of my money and possessions and come join their commune, Mrs. Bradly: Mary Bradly, have you lost your senses? This is a cult! The only thing they are going to teach you is to give them everything you have and brainwash you into being a slave to their order. Why do you think they want you to leave your family and friends? Because, they want complete control of you. There’s no "freedom" in that. Mary, sit down, we’ve got to talk, Cindy you need to go to your room. Mary, there are many cults and ‘false religions" that try to teach that there way is true and they will say and do a lot of things to entice people to believe it. But, the Bible clearly tells us that there is only one true God and that His ways are true and right. Sure, there are lots of religions and beliefs but they don’t make any sense when you really look at what they teach. Christianity is based on the Bible, which is a hook written by real men who witnessed Cod’s power and wrote about it. The Bible tells us of God’s plan for Jesus to come hundreds of years before it happened. It tells us of Jesus dying on the cross and coming alive again, which no other so-called God has ever done. Everything the Bible says is true and it tells us how to live to please God and to understand the meaning of life. And you don’t have to go join a commune and shave your head to belong to God’s family! Mary: Gee, mom, I don’t know how I could have been so foolish. What was I thinking? That guy just seemed so "different" and sure of himself, I let him convince me he must be right and I must be wrong. I’m so glad you talked to me before I got there! Mrs. Bradly: Oh, Mary, so am I. But honey, what are we going to do about your hair? Mary: (pulls off skin cap) Mother, do you really think I could part with my best feature? No way!!! (both laugh and hug as Brady Bunch music plays) |
