Bible verses:

Luke 17:11-19

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!"

14When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed.

15One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan.

17Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" 19Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

This is an easy play to act out or tell the story above. Explain why Jesus told the men to go to the priest (Leviticus 14:1). Ask the kids where they thought the other nine men went and why they didn't thank Jesus. Ask what is more important, in their life than thanking God.

Act out the story with an announcer reading the girl Cassie's part as she goes to bed.

Remind the boys and girls they need to pray and praise God.

James 1:17

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Object lesson:

Cool drink of bitter sorrow: Make two pitchers of fruit drink. In one pitcher put the right amount of sugar. In the second one put NO sugar. Tell the boys and girls they can have a drink of fruit drink if they raise their hand. Give each child a cup and let them drink it. Usually the first kids will say how gross it is, but all of the kids will taste it. Ask them if you forgot to do something. Tell them the second time you made the punch you added the sugar and let them drink a glass. After they throw away the cups, ask them how important all the ingredients are. Ask them if it was important to them if the sugar was added. Let them know how it is important to include all of God's ingredients in their lives. Prayer, reading or listening to God's word and so on. Pray that all of the kids will include God in their lives this week.
